R A Carnell Associates came together in 1985 when three public sector accountants (led by principal consultant Bob Carnell FCMA MA (Oxon) identified a gap in the market.
Many small organisations require final accounts preparation and audit to a high standard but are unwilling - and indeed under no compulsion - to pay the high fees demanded by Registered Auditors.
By offering a realistic and competitive hourly rate and tailoring our product to suit client needs we have built up a client base consisting of: residential homes, parent-teacher associations, school funds, sports clubs - in short any organisation covered by the Small Companies (Exemption from Audit) Regulations 1994. AUDIT RESEARCH

Some time ago our Principal, Bob Carnell, noticed a curious fact. Employed then in public-sector audit,he saw that the "official" rôle of Audit as enshrined in law and accepted professional practice, was at odds with a succession of "perceived" rôles spelled out by the Governments of the day. Some of these were self-contradictory and barely legal.
Bob sought to unravel this interesting situation in a PhD thesis, using material never before made public. "Conflict in the Changing Rôle of Internal Audit" was born. However, the academics at his home university, despite having acclaimed Bob's work earlier, suddenly pronounced Bub's research questions "of no academic interest". Bob felt that this was because they had no idea of his subject-matter.
Bob's thesis is now in suspended animation - NOT ABANDONED. He has (i) a synopsis (ii) many diagrams (iii) about 70,000 words of text analysing the changing rôle of Audit over about 20 years from 1979.
Bob would like to hear from two groups:
a) Any University that can offer Bob a way forward to complete his thesis
b) Any Scholar researching in the same field who might find Bob's material useful.
